There are many roads that you can travel to get to your goal.

Do you have a four year college degree? (odds are severely stacked against you if you don't have a 4 year degree)

$50,000 to $60,000 sounds on the low end of costs and I doubt if it includes the cost of housing, food, examiner fees, etc. That would likely only get you to commercial license; you will need an ATP to fly for commercial airlines starting in August 2013.

At 26, you're late to try the military road but not impossible. The maximum age to start pilot training used to be 27 1/2 (I don't know if it's changed) but it's also very competitive. And you need a four year degree.
Since it sounds like money's an issue and I'm guessing that you don't have a college degree, you may want to consider enlisting in the military for the education benefits. That's probably your fastest route to an airline career from where you're currently at.


OK, given the above, what's the plan that you've come up with?
