Depends which position you are applying for. Cathay hires Second Officers and Direct Entry First Officers. Emirates hires First Officers and Direct Entry Captains. The hour requirements are different for all four positions. Generally speaking the lowest hourly competitive times would be for Cathay SO, EK FO, Cathay DEFO, and then EK Captain in that order. Cathay's interview pass rate for the DEFO position is something like 1 in 8. Perhaps a Cathay guy could elaborate on that. EK FO pass rate is somewhere around 35 to 40 % right now. The DE Captain rate is much lower. Cathay's technical quetions are more difficult.

Thanks, Typhoon. I'm not applying to either in the very near future (not eligible yet!) but definitely looking to that direction as a possible career goal. I didn't realize EK FO position may be easier than CX FO. Do you know if they're hiring U.S. regional guys or is it mostly guys with time in heavy jets? do t-prop drivers have a chance?
