Without speculation on conjecture... here are their rules for flying SB. True food and drink are not allowed... with exception for special needs passengers or religious dietary needs. The purchase of food in-flight is common practice with low cost carriers in Europe... however there is no prohibition from taking your own food and drink onboard.

Sampling of fares / last minute-next day / 2weeks out /travel time /changes

Skybus ----------------- $300 ------------- $90 -------- 2:30 ---- 0
American --------------- $854 ------------- $290 ------- 7:50 ---- 1
Delta ------------------- $390 ------------- $110 ------- 2:30 ---- 0
United ------------------ $274 ------------- $119 ------- 4:10 ---- 1
USAirways -------------- $250 ------------- $250 ------- 4:05 ---- 1
Continental ------------- $390 ------------- $109 ------- 2:50 ---- 0

I beleive with the exception of CAL... food must be purchased.

Passengers don't share the same bravado as pilots regarding the fate of the new start up/LC carriers. They want low fares with non stop operations... especially when familes are travelling together. With the less than civil service received by most passengers from employees from the legacy carriers, they couldn't care less about them. Its quite interesting when you think about it.

Myself... if I finished up in CMH wanting to go to FLL, I would choose any airline that goes nonstop rather than thre risk of a misconnect. With frequent flyer upgrades to first class, we are stuck in the back more times than none.

I say good luck to all the employees at SB. and VA too... and all the airlines that anyone works for... may all crewmembers once again receive the respect deserved
