Well the first step to unifying the pilot group as a WHOLE (which will NEVER happen) is we need ONE union that can work for ALL of us. Each company's pilot group is working for only its own goals. Until we all work towards the same one we will never be unified. Besides GoJet is so small that it doesnt effect bigger carriers like republic or ASA/Skywest who fly 70 seaters.
The argument of putting food on the table applies more than you think. Too many pilots put themselves in a bad position where the only marketable skills they have are the certificates in their wallets. They dont get other experience (i.e. degree in another field or military experience) and then when there is no where else to turn, its either companies like gojet or they LITERALLY will not be able to feed their families. You can not fault these people for going to these employers. You can only fault them for putting themselves in a bad spot. If you REALLY want to unify the pilot group, quit treating these guys like they are the scum of the earth. Treat them like PEOPLE. Kinda reminds me of segregation time in this country. You guys treat them as if they are one step away from being lepers. Until we all treat each other as equals AND PROFESSIONALS like we ALL are, we will NEVER be unified.
Now I have a question for you.... Why does everyone keep saying that gojet is undercutting everyone when its payscale is not that far off of other carriers with 70 seaters?? Sure as an FO you could make more elsewhere by a few dollars an hour, but as a captain pay is pretty close to the other competitors.... Yes I understand they were started in a pretty hostile way, but they are an established airline....
