Growing up as a kid in the 1970's, I remember airlines and how nearly everyone had a catch-phrase or slogan or something to distinguish itself from the rest. I'm wondering why airlines, aside from DING ! "You're free to move about the country", don't put any effort into this? Madison Avenue has abandoned this segment of business, imo.
Here are some I remember. Add to the list if you like..
- Western Airlines...The only way to fly (think they used Mr.Howell from Gilligans's Island on the voice-over)
- Fly the Friendly Skies of United (and Friendship Service)
- We're American Airlines...Doing what we do best. (showed a DC-10 rotating on T.O)
- Braniff Flying Colors (my all-time favorite airline)
- Eastern - we earn our wings every day
- Continental - the proud bird
- Delta is ready when you are
- National - fly me
- British Airways -the world's favourite airline
I bet if you took a poll, 90% of us would recognize SWA's slogan. But I don't think I can name one other current airline. If subliminal advertising and suggestive advertising really does work, looks like I'll be flying on SWA next time.
