My DH didn't get hired with over 10,000 hours TT. He is typed in the 737 (flew it for 2 years as an FO and 2 years as a Captain) and typed in the Airbus (currently in his 5th year flying it as a Captain). He has been with his current airline for 10 years.

He has international and extended over water experience all in jet aircraft.

What he did NOT have was any internal letters of rec.

He has a great attitude and isn't "cocky" at all. He is an extremely nice guy (when I non-rev I ALWAYS have other pilots, flight attendants, and gate agents tell me I'm married to such a nice guy).

My DH has interviewed with 5 different airlines over the past 11 years, and this is the first airline that did not offer him a job.

He is professional, clean-cut, intelligent and above all else a safe and excellent pilot.

I LOVE the airline he is with now, so personally, I'm glad we are staying put for the time being!

I believe everything happens for a reason!!

In writing this post I mean no disrespect toward SWA, their pilots or the folks that make the decisions on who to hire or not hire. Bottom line is that it is THEIR choice.

Congratulations to all of you who did get hired!
Don't feel bad. There are a lot of good qualifed guys/girls that get turned away from SWA. The last couple of years they have gotten away from the good old boy system of hiring all "Luke Airforce Based F-teen drivers". No disrespect towards those guys but for a long time there was a pipe line from there to SWA. That has seemed to be curtailed for now. There seems to be a more even number of civilian pilots hired now, however, with all the airlines not hiring and only SWA hiring it is extremly competitive. I've been there for 7 years, and the hiring process has gotten much better over the last few years. Tell your husband to be sure to reapply, because it seems the guys who reapply get hired on a very larger % the second time. It shows they really want to work at SWA and that they did not get discourged and that their overall goal is to work at SWA. But don't get discourged and don't let him beat himself up to bad. Don't give up. Reapply!
