the emb-145 has a very annoying habit in crosswind landings.
the aircraft has only ailerons and no roll spoilers, and the ailerons wash out badly as the airspeed decays in the flare.
the rudder has a limiter on it that cuts out half of the surface area above speeds of 135kias. below this speed, the second section further deflects to add rudder authority. there is no indication of this, or a tactile feel through the rudder pedals.
so in a strong crosswind landing, the pilot needs to assertively increase the throw on the yoke as the airplane slows, and back off the rudder as the plane slows below 135kias. in short the aircraft quickly looses aileron authority in the flare, and suddenly gains rudder authority.
another very annoying habit on the emb-145 are the pilots that failed coordination class, as evident when the part-time yaw damper is turned off.
