For the OP, I LOVED my time at CWU. Could I do it again, I would have done the mom and pop thing and got a business degree.
The CWU program is run by two entities. The university handles the academics, Midstate Aviation (FBO) handles the flight training. As a grad of the CWU program, I feel my experience is on par with the vast majority of CWU grads.
I was never really that impressed with Midstate, at all. In fact, I advise everyone I know to steer clear of Midstate Aviation. I was a successful grad of the program, so I'm not jaded that I don't have a job, etc etc. I just cannot fathom how such a poorly run organization can land such a great contract with CWU.
The flight training provided by Midstate is no better than anywhere else, as previously stated. In fact, I will go out on a limb and say that some of the training provided was actually sub-par. For all the professionalism that is preached, I didn't see much, especially after this gear up incident with the chief CFI, on their ONLY multiengine plane. There is a LOT of holier-than-thou attitude, which is funny considering their reputation, and this most recent gear-up landing.
The academic side of the flight program at CWU is amazing, I was very impressed. The CWU staff are great, and really care. The Midstate Aviation side of the program is what drags everything down. When I was at CWU, I felt the staff really cared, and I really got a good value for my money. When the academics were over and I drove down the street to fly at Midstate, I felt the exact opposite. I NEVER felt that the money I spent at Midstate was worth it. From scheduling, to basic things like the front desk staff, I never felt welcome.
To recap, I was thrilled with the academic side of things. The Flight Technology faculty and staff are amazing (Wilson, Sloan, Hoover, adjuncts). The contracted FBO that provides flight training, is very lackluster.
