Written ALPA policy says you shouldn't jumpseat on a flight you have a ticket for. No one’s ignoring that and it’s not WOM. I guess some are choosing to look at that policy as a stand alone policy that the jumpseat committee pulled out of their --- for no good reason. Others actually understand the policy motive which is to avoid lost revenue to the airline due to misuse of the jumpseat. When you understand the intent of policy it’s a little easier to choose actions that will most likely comply.

I think if this discussion were to continue in a worth while manner, we’d need to see a copy of the actual reciprocal jumpseat agreements we hold with the various passenger carriers. I’ve never seen one. I have just been using stories and knowledge accrued over the years (yeah I guess some WOM) and what’s written from ALPA to comply with the spirit of the rules as I understand them. Perhaps our jumpseat guidance needs a little book icon and an “intent” statement to clarify like in the online contract.
Cheers.
