Why would they make up an excuse (playing on the computer) which would be equivalent to purposely not flying the jet, rather than telling the truth and admitting they were asleep, something which can happen to anyone?
Those guys wish they were sleeping!
If they would have lied about that, and the CVRs proved otherwise (remember, they can look back on CVRs if the FBI needs to), then they would be caught lieing and be in worse trouble than they are now, jail.
