See ya in May
So what will be your argument? That you are greedy gen x'ers ? So you are more deserving? Age discrimnation is age discrimnation.
The same playing field is that the majority of upgrades are due to expansion, not attrition. ALPA had 18000 members in 1978, over 66000 today. There was no "regional" airline industry to speak of then--the local service carriers were the equivalent then--the industry has gotten bigger--yet many of the pilots retiring now have had to start over after their airlines went out of business during the upheavals caused by deregulation which continue to this day.
You go back to a regulated industry where all aspects of the industry are regulated by the government including, salaries, and guranteed pensions then maybe you would have a case for retaining the age 60 rule, however if you go back to an industry like that I'll show you one that is vastly smaller than it is now.

fogey
Deregulation...um 1978? So almost 30 later you want to change the rules? Where were the Eastern, Braniff, and Pan Am guys screaming for this change when they went under? They weren't because bad luck, timing, or poor life decisions are part of life. If you want a guaranteed pension, go work for the government!
Go ahead; you'll be doing the geezers (I'm one, so I can say that) a big favor. A bunch of youngsters whining that they can't get the seat they think they deserve will look really good next to a bunch of older guys who have gotten their retirement stolen and can't even collect SS until two years after they're forced into retirement. Who do you think the general public will identify with? Have fun out there

It's about the money on both sides, I just haven't heard many of the pro-65ers admitt that. If age discrimination is age discrimination, then fight to get rid of all of it, not just those age limits that effect you.
One last thought, remember, most infants are bald, have no teeth, and wear diapers and we don't let them in the cockpit either.
