Default Age 60 on PBS

For all my Fox watching friends that still think we're "winning the war" - you may have missed that PBS did a segment on the Age 60/65 debate tonight.

A majority of the members of another union, the Air Line Pilots Association, also voted to retain the current retirement age, although acknowledging the issue has become divisive.
Amazing how the above became the following within the month May 2007:

Quote:
A 180 on retirement age -- Air Line Pilots Association now supports
retiring at 65, after decades of advocacy for age 60 limit

The nation's largest pilot union Thursday reversed course on long- held views that airline pilots should retire at age 60, joining forces with a growing group pushing for 65.

Leaders from the 40 airline unions represented by the Air Line Pilots Association voted 80 percent in favor of the change, a complete about-face of their posture for 27 years and an indication of how strongly they want their views heard if the rule is rewritten.

Oh, I am crying in my beer for those poor old discriminated against pilots., Of course they are on top of their game... Sure they are... It's sad that everyone but them know they have lost their skills.. I see, does anyone else?

Aging is a *****. I am not as sharp as I was 10 years ago. I have a nice resume, 9K plus heavy time, 5k plus PIC time. I can do my job, but I know my skills are declining. Am I unique, or are these old guys not wanting to see the truth for economic or personal needs????

Many years ago, I was about to receive my Private Pilot's License in my father's airplane. He said to me, "You're going to be a better pilot than I am. You're young, you're reflexes are quicker, you think faster and if you aren't AT LEAST as good of a pilot as I am, I'm not going to let you fly MY airplane."

I was 19 years old. It was the first time I had seen my father admit he was able to see ageing catching up with him. I had a lot more respect for my father after that.

You can image what I think of these old guys that want to fly past 60 ...
