Default Sept. 30th days away-

The FAA Reauthorization Bill has until the 30th to be voted on. Plus, all the Congress is going home for the weekend. Is the Age 60 dead untill the 111th Congress?

I know there's an extension of up to 3 months, but I heard NO bills can be added after the 30th. The extension is just for Funds.

What ever happened to the NPRM that would change Part 121 increasing the retirement age to age 65? The FAA Administrator, Marion Blakey, said that the FAA would begin the process for the change, but that was last January, what goes?.

Most of the bureaucratic agencies publicly state that they want this change, but they(FAA, H.Rep, Senate, ALPA, etc..) want someone else to accept responsibility. I think that it is gonna happen, but I dont see it making it through the red tape any time soon.

IMO, the HR & Senate did not do the cause any favors by attaching it to another bill.

I dont fully remember, but doesnt the president have the power to sign the bill and line item veto any part he deems unacceptable? If I am incorrect please correct me.

The Line Item Veto was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in 1998.

It's buried, shuffled between FAA offices. Blakey promised that it'd be on the street this fall. She's gone.
Most likely, it's going to get 'lost' in someone's In Basket in the FAA. I would not count on this as the method of changing age 60.
