Default I didn't realize the Senate would approve this fast.

Senate Unanimously Approves Change to Pilot Retirement Age Limit
Legislation awaits President’s signature to become law
December 12, 2007

Just one day after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R.4343, a bill that would raise the mandatory retirement age for commercial airline pilots to 65, the U.S. Senate followed suit tonight when it approved the same piece of legislation by unanimous consent—meaning that no senator objected.
“ALPA has worked very hard from the beginning of this process to make sure that the recommendations of the Executive Board—which were intended to protect our pilots—were included in any age change,” said ALPA President Capt. John Prater. “I am gratified to report to our members tonight that this legislation reflects the direction of the Board.”

The bill now goes to the U.S. President for his signature, which will make it law. The timing for this has yet to be determined.

We can only hope that Bush finally vetoes a bill and does something good for pilots for a change.

Isn't ol' Bushy due to head to his ranch in Crawford for a little well deserved rest and relaxation...like tomorrow! Glad I'm where I wanted to be when the music stopped.

We need to keep this in perspective.

This is not just the age 65 rule. Age 65 is an obscure provision in an appropriations bill that badly needs to be passed before the holiday break.

Whoever attached this provision to the bill is your enemy, not the House, Senate, or the President.

There's no way that they would stall this important appropriations bill for what they consider a minor provision.

What passed was a stand alone bill

When Rep. Oberstar brought HR4343 to the House floor he said that he had wanted to keep the change in HR2881, his FAA Reauthorization bill which passed in the House, but the Senate version S.1300 is still tied up in the Senate. You guys don't seem to understand that is the age change everyone wanted. It would help, not hinder the passage of any Bill that it was in. There was not one vote against this stand alone bill. Almost an unheard number. Someone mentioned that the Declaration of War against Japan had one Congressperson voting NAY.

but you have to look at the numbers, i think some 50 members of house didn't even show up for the vote. that's got to tell you something.

and something else thats funny, the average age of a congressmen is i think around 56-57. seems the demographic being asked is a little biased?

Please enlighten me on how the President can veto a bill that has passed unanimously in both the Senate and House!!

He can veto it, but Congress will have the votes to override the veto. They'd still have to vote on it again.

The only real chance is a pocket veto but I don't know when Congress goes on recess. There may be too much time for a pocket veto to work.
