Thumbs down New FAA medical stardard re: AGE 65???

I went for my routine FAA physical recently. I asked the doc (an old guy himself, maybe 75 years old?) if he anticipated any changes to the FAA medical as a result of AGE 65. He explained that the FAA was revising the entire medical questionaire form and that new "passing" standards were being instituted. He said, for example, being overweight would soon be grounds for denial of your FAA medical. I explained that wasn't possible because DW and ALPA both pushed for the change and advocated for no changes to FAA medical standards.

So ... two thoughts.

1. Thanks "Old Guys" for making tougher medical standards for all of us.

and ...

2. If you can be denied an FAA medical for being overweight, can a chubby guy now claim that he is "disabled" (can't get an FAA medical) and retire on disability?

I wonder if FH would approve of this strategic strategy! (I also wonder how DC10 SO training is going!)

My Flight Doc just told me the same thing this week. Seems there's a new head of Flt Medicine at the FAA, and the denials--or requests for more information from primary care physicians--have begun. Not a good trend.

What is going to be considered "overweight". There are a lot of overweight folks flying.

Follow on thought ... the doc said the "weight standard" was being driven by Airbus drivers (A320 I assume) that couldn't fold the table (called flight attendant jumpseat at some airlines?) down.

Are you telling us that you are overweight?

I'm all for this.....I'm sick of flying with frumpy fat pilots. I want my captains to look like Chippendale's. If it ain't tight, it ain't right guys! I need a little eye candy to keep me awake on these long transcons for crying out loud!
