Looks like 65 rule will pass, We are all in deep...
Fellas, Looks like this 65 rule thing is going to pass, even talks about retired guys sueing to get back on the line, this will be Disasterous to the industry, and if we all can expect to stay at the Regional level a very very very long time, just when I thought things woul turn around, the biggest obstacle of all. The Greedy SOB's who knew the rules coming in, seem to be changing them, how convienent for them, they ruin the industry becuase they wanted to keep thier pay (no Major Airline Pilots wanted to fly RJs), now they can take it to an even lower level, thank your miserable greedy 30 yr captains for whats to come............... Your comments please!
I wish we could blame the age 65 rule on the old farts. The sad truth is that to allow continued free trade with the EU, the United States is being forced to maintain the new International standard of 65. It really has nothing to do with safety, seniority, retirement funds, or anything. It is simply economics. We are in a global economy and must keep up with the rest of the world to be a player.
I hate the idea of the age going up too. It means 5 more years in the back seat for me (on top of the 5 I am looking forward to already).
Oh, you mean the greedy guys who lost their pensions? Yeah, they're greedy alright.
Oh, and last time I checked pilots didn't "ruin the industry", the guys who attacked the WTC and the pentagon did.
I know a great deal of these Legacy Airline guys, how and what they spent their money on......................... hell, half of their paycheck go to the Ex's

1) Not all pilots will want to stay past 60, and not all will have medicals.
2) There is decent chance that this rule will have some sort of phase-in, ie increase the retirement age by one year every year or two over the next 5-10 years.
3) The ATA absolutely WILL NOT sit still and let all those retired guys come back with their original seniority (and pay). I'm 90% certain that congress will legislate this. Congress will have to do this, while either the FAA or congress can change the age rule, only congress can decisively block the 60-65 retirees from suing to get their jobs back once the age rule is changed. If congress fails to do this, we'll witness the mother of all legal battles...
yes it was bad but manage, ent took full advantage of it
Legacy pilots took advantage of the situation when times were good. Those pilots were WAY overpaid and the current pay rates are at much more of a reasonable level. FO pay is low, but the top end of the senior pay scales are more in line with the job. $400k+ as a senior pilot just can't be supported. Average CEO pay is in the $200k-$300k range.

I'm not referring to strictly airline management.
Also, looks like the high wage earners have offset the scale a bit, I did a lookup and the average pay is now $680,000 with $1,000,000 in bonuses. However, the recent golden parachutes of same big name people have slighted that toward the right.
