Default Link to Blakey's speech

Here's the link to Blakey's speech. A little long to post.

With a speech titled "Experience Counts", I would have like to have heard her definition of "experience". No one could argue that what Al Haynes did with that out of control aircraft is nothing short of heroic, and set the benchmark for crew resource management. His experience, without a doubt, led to the positive outcome, which many passengers on that flight owe their lives. However.........if the age 65 rule had been in effect during Haynes career........he'd still have been 59 at the time of the accident, but more than likely.......with 5 less years as Captain.

As an aside, he would have made a great instructor after age 60. I wonder if UAL offered him anything, or he just retired. I know he did the speaking tour for a while.

Great! So why should want you want to do prevent someone else from taking a different path?

By the way, this "discussion" justs goes "Round and Round". Anyone remember who sang that song?

It doesn't prevent anyone from taking a different path. When you reference my earlier post, I said, "they" could fly til they drop.....if that's the path they choose. Just don't mess with the ability for those that prepared, to leave at age sixty.

Round and round indeed.

A pilot can retire anytime he wants. Nothing in the age-65 proposal prevents it.

Most certainly your retirement benefits, whatever they might be, will be affected.

I'm thinking along these lines..........like you said on another thread.

Also, the question also begs an answer about how the IRS would handle the change.

ALPA and other pilot unions had better get together here.

PLEASE. You and I both know that within a short period of time after institution of this change, the normal retirement age will be 65. There will be a few who retire earlier, but there will be a definite shift to retire at 65.

Memory loss is one of the first signs of the decline in mental acuity that comes with aging.
