You should take the money you have saved your entire life and travel the world. Do everything you've ever wanted to do!

Why would anyone want to be working at 65... I just can't wrap my head around it!
Chicken Little your ba........ck! One question.... How old are you anyway? I got that question about 17 years ago when I was a young beginner. Please, if you can retire at 55, do so. I have always heard that is the magic number, but have not seen too many pilots do it (some names do come to mind though). Believe it or not some people like their job and the people they work with. Have you gotten there yet? I doubt it.

I gave a reply to an older FA in reference to the above question and maybe you can say the same thing someday. MOM!!!!!!

And why do you like your job so much? Could it be because you benefitted from all of the retirees ahead of you? If you had to yank gear for another 5 years, your perspective may change.

CZ,

Actually you have no clue and I have altered my reply in response (it started off quite differently). I really, really wanted to go back to the old days and call you a name that would be undignified. I won't though. At age 34 I flew with my father on his last day (at age 60) and wouldn't wish that experience on my worst father/son enemy. Since then I have advanced because of stupidity not benefit.

It will change whether you like it or not and not because I advanced because of it!

I'm REALLY looking forward to flying with some OSF's. I'll do my part to make it as uncomfortable and unpleasant as possible. They want a rift in the cockpit, well they are certainly going to get one.

What's the line from that movie? "I will make it my mission in life."

Hey, everybody's got to have a hobby right?

Now back to counting the ways this job will kill me somewhere between my 60th and 65th birthday.

Just make sure you are consistent in shoveling your shlt. If you're going to be a hemmorroid, I challenge you to do it during your LOFT sim at recurrent. You know, where they check your CRM.

With that attitude, you are an accident looking for a place to happen.

Quite a few of us around age 55 suddenly developed an intense desire to be retired, when we saw our lump sums about to depart the pattern. I was outraged at the time, but have since come to realize that it WAS about the money and that I wasn't enjoying the job as much as I had thought. In hindsight, I was very fortunate, but that epiphany did not occur until after retirement.

You're right, I don't have a clue. What I have are plans. Plans that include such things as college educations, weddings and other lifelong variables that occur over the span of the next 25 years.

It must have been nice to have flown with your dad on his last flight. He was passing the torch to you, so that you could begin your career and start planning your life. Now if only you'd return the favor so that we can have the same opportunity you had.

CRM?? Come on, this is FedEx. Oh and we don't do "LOFT" sims in the Boeing, whatever that is. Sounds like new age hippie crap.

I guess the guys who lost their pensions didn't have any plans.
