Junior Manning at XJT is when all reserves are used and they need someone to fly a trip. Crew Scheduling will then cold-call pilots in reverse-seniority on their days off. If you answer your phone AND identify yourself you are obligated to take the assignment. One simple way to avoid it is not to answer any calls from Scheduling on your days off. Another is to make something up, i.e. "I'm in Hawaii," or "I would just popped open my 5th beer." There is no penalty for not answering your phone or being out of position.

This is often confused with being reassigned. Sometimes you'll be finishing up your last leg of a trip and they'll tack on a turn. This assignment does not have to be in seniority order.

Not all airline require that you accept the " Junior man " assignment. At United the we have the choice but that can change with every contract.

How does that work considering duty time?...If im even using that term correctly.

Like if you just got done with a trip, they couldnt call you to 'junior man' a trip in the morning, if it conflicted with your required rest, correct? It would really only apply like...if you had 3 days off in a row, they could grab ya for the middle day?

You always have to have legal rest. If you have legal rest to fly the next morning then yes you could be called out.
