not one hundred percent sure but the good money is on

Shiny Jet Syndrome

Meaning....you are so dazzled with the sight of, prospect of, being in a jet that you have tunnel vision and the only thing that matters is getting from where you are now into one of those nice shiny jets.

Shiny Jet Syndrome is a better guess than I would have had. Similar to the above definition, it could also be equated to management dangling a carrot in front of the pilot group to achieve a desired contract provision (often a concession for the pilots). For example, Legacy Airline A has a very restricing scope clause (good for pilot group) and management wants the clause lifted or eased. What mgmt. might do is offer the pilots a new fleet of aircraft (i.e. 787) at slightly-higher-than-current payscales, but lower than industry standard, if the pilots agree to ease the scope. Some pilot groups might see the 787 (brand new shiny jet) and the "wow factor" and agree to the proposal. But in the long run, it's not the best for the group for two reasons. 1. The company may buy the new jets anyway and the pilots could possibly negotiate an industry standard or -leading pay scale. 2. The scope clause most likely protected their flying from going to a regional, thus protecting more jobs at the Legacy.

I imagined it had something to do with new guys jumping into the industry with low time. At least from what I've read. Thx for the input.

And someone get up a sticky for the new guys with acronyms!
