Is there any direct equation of Thrust lbs vs horsepower?

Here's one to get you started:

HP = Thrust (lbs) * speed (TAS) / 325

Not to do a, how you say, a nitpick, but the airspeed used in this equation is TAS.

Since they measure different things there is no direct, simple ratio that works under all conditions. However if you consider a a stationary airplane just starting it's takeoff roll at sea level, one lb of thrust would be roughly equivalent to one HP. So a 20,000# thrust airplane could be considered to be producing the rough energy equivalent of 20,000 HP. (technically however a stationary airplane is generating zero HP).

Available HP also has a direct relationship to atmospheric conditions. An engine will produce less HP at higher outside air temps & higher pressure altitudes.

Throttle forward, go fast.
Throttle back, slow down.

That's how I roll.

Don't forget:

Yoke back - Houses Smaller
Yoke forward - Houses Bigger

Also, I like the way you remember how the throttle works, although that's a little confusing for a Marine like me.

I can remember this though:

Throttle forward - Loud
Throttle back - Quiet
