Default What would ya do in this scenario

You start your take-off roll...

V1
.
.
Engine 2 is on fire - you shut it off
.
.
.
.
Engine 1 is on fire, however still producing thrust/power, its your only left engine so you are going to leave it on

when you come back around to land, you are in 0 vis situation. you can't see squat. You shoot the ILS, and upon DH, no sight of lights/runway anything, way too foggy.

what would you do? go miss, and risk losing the engine that is barely alive and plop back down to earth, or continue the approach and hope you land where you need to land?

I can't fricking edit posts here, but after Engine 2 goes on fire, since its after V1 you did rotate and say that engine 1 is on fire right at rotate or at 500-600 feet

Leave it coupled until you hear the 30' auto call, then disc. the AP and flare a little.. not much just enough to somewhat break the sink rate.

F-16's only have one engine. The guy in your Avatar did the only thing to do in that situation. Seriously though. If possible I would auto land.

A similar question was posed on our AQP annual check recently. The scenario had us experiencing a cargo smoke indication with minimums at our only possible airport. The instructor also adds that the flt attn claims the floor is hot and he can smell something.

Most of us (who got the gouge) set up an auto land in that scenario also. The idea is to get it on the ground even if the crew becomes overcome with smoke. Not something I hope to experience. It was a good exercise though.

You assume crash positions and land. The airport will should crash-fire-rescue, the homes you crash into don't . Keep the debris on the airport.

Why'd you go in the first place? If you can't get back in, you better have a good alternate.
