Default Airline pilot homes?

I am very intresting in becoming an airline captain and a going to start working on my privite pilots licence. I love where I live in Florida and don't want to leave. I was curious if the airlines usually force you to live near where you fly out of or can you pretty much live where you want. Thanks

You can be based in Seattle and live in Rhode Island. You can be based in Anchorage and live in Miami. The company doesn't care where you live...as long as you report for duty on time...every time. That being said, those types of commutes would wreak absolute havoc on you and your family and you would have no life whatsoever because all your free time would be spent traveling to and from base. Everyone you talk to on here will tell you NOT to commute and live in base if at all possible.

Commuting royally blows... live in base, trust me!

I went from a 4 hour commute at my first base, to a 5 hour commute at my second base, and then down to a three hour commute at my last base, finally ended up with a base which is only an hour away via Southwest, and it still sucks.

not true , you not only have to live in your base, you have to buy a house no more than 15 min drive from the airport.
