Default What is a "training contract"?

Noticing in a few of the regional airline descriptions that some of them have "training contracts" for instance Big-Sky has a "one year training contract for $10,000, pro-rated." what exactly does this term mean?

I am running late for work but in short the company pays alot of money to train you and in some cases (corporate) you get a PIC type rating worth thousands of dollars.

If you were to go to big sky for example and get all of that training and then leave the day you finish training and take that experience to get you a better job somewhere else they would lose out on lots of money so their way to recoup that loss if it happens is the contract.

If you leave before the 12 month period then you owe then 10K and some are prorated so if you leave after say 6 months you owe then 5k.
