Default Days off question

Fellow pilots I have a question regarding the statement "minimum days off a month 12."

Obviously, I understand that every airline is going to be different. I am interested in working at a regional carrier. So my question is when they say youll be getting 12 days off a month does that mean your getting 12 days off at home? Or does that include a day off that you might get at a layover? If anybody can please respond I'd appreciate I've spent enough time away from home through the military. So thats why I'm curious to ask my wife can handle some time away from home but, if I'm only home 5 days a month its going to get old fast.

A day off is a day at home, not on the road. FYI-the FAA definition is 24 hours free of duty, not a calendar day. So, if your airline released you from work at 1pm on Monday till 1pm on Tuesday, it would be considered a day off for FAR purposes.

I haven't seen that much at all though. It's too much math for the schedulers.... You'll usually get 12 whole "day's".

12 days off if you live at your base. Now if commuting, cut that time off to 8-10 days at home, factoring in the jumpseating time to and from your home to base, numerouse times per month.
