TT is time while acting as a required crew member or student.
If you are learning to fly as a student, that time is TT
If you are instructing someone as a CFI, that time is TT
If you are flying solo, that time is TT
If you are acting as SIC in an airplane that requires it or on an operating certificate that requires it, that time is TT
You can log TT in a FAA certified Class D simulator.
I logged my Flight Engineer time as total Time. I was a required crew member on a transport Cat. airplane.
Now here is a question, as a F/E Check Airman with an ATP but without a CFI, can you log the time you gave dual and checkrides as a F/E Check Airman as CFI time ???
Blastoff, where in the regs does it say you can log Class D sim as TT. I don't doubt you, I just had never hear of it.
Thanks,
FliFast-How many hours did you say I needed for the job ?

Thanks,
I would say the Check Airman letter gives you CFI status. Not sure about logging the checkrides, by that time the student is "flying solo." I've seen "evaluator" columns in some logbooks, I never worried about logging the time as long as I was getting Check Airman pay.

Are you sure your a check airman? Or are you a supervisory engineer? I don't recall f/e being listed as check airman as far as the feds are concerned unless you are giving f/e ticket rides and then its a designated examiner. To be a supervisory f/e, you don't have to have a letter from the feds to act in such a capacity like a pilot check airman does.
I would say no to logging it as f/e time when acting as a supervisory f/e. They guy your giving OE to, is already (techinacly) qualed in the seat and the only restriction he has on his ticket is the OE time before he can operate as an f/e on a Pax aircraft.
Have to delve deep, back into some old things to find the answer on that one.
