Default Furloughs

Question: If you are at an airline for 5 years and then get furloughed, if you accepted recall would you return at year 5 pay or would you go back to year 1? Thanks.

Once recalled, you go back at your seniority and longevity when you were furloughed. So if you get furloughed after 5 years and are gone for 3 years, you get recalled to 5th year status.

True but in some cases depending on what kind of deal was worked out, furloughed pilots can sometimes be allowed seniority accrual while they were out.

This all depends on each individual airline's Pilot Contract. Some airlines you accrue longevity while on furlough, some you don't...that is all.

Not always true, but mostly true.

Blastoff is correct----individual contracts decide this.

Also, at AA if you return, you return at same pay you left. BUT, in the last furlough in '93, all recalls got longevity while on furlough, meaning they came back with time-in-service for furlough. Not always the case, as we're seeing today.
