Default 757 boom mic headset or not??

On the 757, is it worth investing in a telex headset with the boom mic, or just use the hand mic. The ptt switch looks accessible from the audio panel.

Headset would be easier, use the telex 750 though, just need a one sided one.

Don't know who you work for but at DAL a headset has to be used below FL180. You can always use the DC ship headsets, but if you want your own I'd suggest a lightweight one. The plane is quiet enough you don't need a heavy headset.

A headset makes life easier and you will have less distractions.

You need a boom mic under FL180 for 121 flying.

Especially if you have a Fed on board that day.

Default Sorry for the headset question confusion.

I was asking whether to use a headset with the boom mic attached, instead of using a headset with no boom and just using the hand mic.
Now I guess it's a question of the single sided speaker or the one with both ear speakers.

Buy a Telex 750--best value for the money and it's nice at times to put a phone on both ears--high traffic/foreign airports. I used one for years on the 75/76 and loved it. Check ebay for good prices. You should be able to find a new one for around $125 or so. Redwave

Default Boom mike below 180

The voice recorder now has a hot feed off each boom mike. Regs require you to have a boom mike in place and use below FL180.

Per 121.359(g), that's only if the plane was manufactured after 11Oct91. Still some dinosaurs out there that don't require a boom mic per the FARs. Companys may require it above and beyond the regs.
