I'm pretty sure the Carrier Airwing guys would notice.

Never done that and would be freaked out (might also scream out "Flaps are up" ) to see an airliner do it especially if i am travelling in the same aircraft.

I've had a couple of emergency calls from the cabin as we took the runway where the FA says that "there's a guy back here that's acting very panicked and insistant that I tell you that your flaps are up..."

Incidentally, both times were in the same week. And this was the week that USA Today published a story about the times that airliners have crashed because of inadvertent flaps 0 takeoffs, and a number of flaps 0 takeoffs that didn't involve hitting anything ( not sure where they got those numbers)

I stand convinced that a little bit of knowledge in the public's hands is a dangerous thing. Anyway, not that this applies to the aircraft listed in the original question at all, but we normally do flaps 0 takeoffs in the mighty Saab, 15 if we really need to takeoff on a postage stamp.

Take-offs in the B-767 can be done at Flaps 1. At flaps 1, the slats extend to the mid-range position although the trailing edge flaps do not move. It is approved by Boeing, the FAA, FDA,TSA, FDIC, etc. I've done it numerous times.

As for the passengers, the "Sgt" is right. They couldn't tell the difference and 93.8% could care less.

One thing we had to consider on the Brasilia was the nose wheel tire speeds with flaps up and high DA. We could do a ferry with flaps up but rotation speeds were waay up there even in a turbo prop

Absolutely agree. Higher tire speeds, flap retraction schedule, second segment climb, GTOW, etc. all go into the decision making process and Flaps 1 is not normally used in air carrier operations.

The amount of rearward/downward movement of the trailing edge flaps when selecting Flaps 5 is not all that significant compared to the "up" position of the trailing edge flaps when Flaps 1 is selected to all but the trained observer and I doubt that I'd have to buy too many brews when we played the "where are the trailing edge flaps game".

Just my two cents...devalued to $ .002020765 on today's market.

Had a guy flip in a 1900 one time when we were departing with flaps at APR and start yelling "FLAPS! FLAPS! FLAPS!", I looked back at him as we powered up and said "we got this".

Hi!

I am flying a DC-9-34F, and we have tab data for a flaps 0, F5, and F15 takeoff. NWA did F0. At USAJet we only did F5 or F15. We had considered doing some F0 ops, but never did.

F0 allows you to TO with the highest Takeoff Weights. In my Wind Shear avoidance training, my instructor told me to take off with the lowest possible flap settings.

PS-With a F0 takeoff and heavy weights (max is 121,000 lbs., but we are usually limited to about 115.0, because of high and hot), we are showing VR speeds up around 170 kts. Pretty fast.

I'd also be a little worried if we took the runway with flaps retracted. Is it just the A300 and 767-200 that can depart with flaps, or are there others?

Slats 15, Flaps 0 (15/0) is an allowable configuration for takeoff in the A300. We use it for potential windshear, or anytime the performance computer requires it.
