I'd be willing to bet a round of drinks that you couldn't tell the difference between a Flaps 1 and Flaps 5 take-off in a B-767 unless you had a lot of time in the aircraft (sitting in the cabin) and knew exactly where the flight crew had them positioned. You would notice the slats in the mid-range position and that's all you need to see.

As for the passengers "screaming FLAPS, FLAPS"....I tend to doubt it.
