Default Logging approaches in sim

I'm looking through my logbook and I can't remember. Can you log approaches that were done in a simulator? Not full motion sim or anything, just the ones you used when you were getting your instrument rating.

Frasca? Yes.

PCATD? Yes.

Microsoft Flight Simulator on your desktop PC? No, not really.

Ok, but you need an instructors signature and number right?

When I was a flight instructor I jumped in the FRASCA on occasion and practiced shooting approaches and doing some holds. Never had an instructor there with me, just killing some time between students. I've been out of the instructor game for so long now, I can't remember if I could log those approaches now or not.

I'm thinking I can't log these approaches I did while I was in the FRASCA by myself.

Thoughts???

I don't know the answer about logging the approaches or not; but I'm curious, if you have been out of the instructor game for so long, why the interest in trying to go back and log simulated instrument approaches now?

I believe you can log the approaches for currency without an instructor's sign-off (Sim/PCATD). If I remember correctly though, you must do them more often though to keep current.

If you are using the instrument time toward a certifcate or rating then it must be signed off.

Again, 61.51(g)(4):

Quote:
A person can use time in a flight simulator, flight training device, or aviation training device for acquiring instrument aeronautical experience for a pilot certificate, rating, or instrument recency experience, provided an authorized instructor is present to observe that time and signs the person's logbook or training record to verify the time and the content of the training session.

I'm not looking to go back and log approaches now. I'm converting my paper log books over to a computer log book and I'm not so sure I should count them. I'm actually considering deleting them. It's only about 5 approaches that I'm talking about and doesn't affect currency either way I just want to make sure everything is done right.

I looked up the reg that BoilerUP mentioned and it says that it must include an instructors signature. So I think I found my answer and I'll delete the entries. At some point I must have thought I could log them but now it looks as if I was wrong. The right thing to do is to delete them and correct my error.

Here is the reg I was looking at:

[(4) A person can use time in a flight simulator, flight training device, or aviation training device for acquiring instrument aeronautical experience for a pilot certificate, rating, or instrument recency experience, provided an authorized instructor is present to observe that time and signs the person's logbook or training record to verify the time and the content of the training session.]

Not that I'm aware of.
