Tom, IMHO your assertions are based on a major error, that being AA and U will never merge. Even Horton admits AA merger is likely and U is the almost certain partner.

I think you need to accept what even Horton alludes to. The question for those of us LINE pilots is not if we merge with U, but when is the best time.

In order to accurately determine that, you have to accept that reality first and then assess all known aspects.

That's what most of us on the line hope to do. My apologies if that knocks over your apple cart.

Thanks for your measured reply. As I've said many times, (I) will be alright. I'm not super senior, but senior enough. My house is paid off, and I have decent retirement funds whenever the date comes. I love my company and will never apologize for that.

But this isn't about me. I was fortunate, I only applied to one airline (AA) and was blessed to be hired by the same. My goal is be part of a renewed and stronger American Airlines! Maybe that's beyond my control, but I'd like to think otherwise.

I still choose to dream!

If this is true, then congratulations. Unfortunately, the bottom half of the seniority list isn't so lucky. Horton's plan pretty much will finish us off and we won't have your dry lifeboat.

If we all end up in the icy waters of Lake Horton (1113), perhaps as you sail on by in that dry lifeboat, you'll toss us a cushion or two as we flounder around.

Clearly, you're in a far different place then many of the pilots of AA.

Just so we're clear, for everyone lurking here, every single pilot on the payroll at AA still has an A-fund and a B-fund. Additionally, every pilot at AA is still earning a great wage and it still will be a wage well above the median income of the population at large whether we're AAer's, USer's or some combination thereof!

Now you can choose to offer up a bottle of woe-is-me, but nobody outside the pilot world buys it!

We are a blessed group!

My advice for those who don't believe it or choose not to believe it to to leave the industry and seek their fortunes elsewhere.

Just so were clear, you're reading passages from the AMR book of fiction again. What is happening now, isn't the point.

The 1113 wipes virtually all of that out, turning AA into a regional carrier with higher hourly rates. You forget that this is a pilots forum and most can distinguish this B.S. by now.

Next you'll be trying to sell everyone here ocean-front property in Nebraska.

Should U and AA hook up, my advice to those fairly senior who have nothing to lose, should leave their former "dream" and ride off into the sunset to polish their laurels.

At the same time, the APA leadership knows it would win the representation election in a merged company, so we AA pilots come out ahead. So far not too bad!

Between a ruthless CEO and an opportunistic APA, where's the downside here? East, Central and West, what a stew! We'll be all singing row, row, row your boat in no time flat!

You guys are right, our leadership is whacked, but Doug and Scott will be our saviors; the anticipation is awe inspiring and we will rule the world.
Best part is 75% of you will be retired in less than 10 years, a huge chunk 5!! Even better part is I bet 50% of you are dead in 20!

ya I am, was a bit sarcastic, but we also know what happens to a pilot after they retire. Not many see 10 years. Which is funny because we are care so much about saving money and our pensions. No wonder we have no problem finding wives eh?

But seriously, you guys retire in 5 years and your screaming about this stuff, it will take 3+ to even start talking about one list if AA came in.
