It might be "easy stuff" but it costs the company money and time to retrain you so it's best avoided.

120 days from your rating sim. Can be extended for 30 days(150 total).

If you fail to consolidate you get two days 1v1 with a GS instructor, one practice sim, and then do a full recurrent training. Then you get another IOE trip.

For new hires, I wouldn't worry about consolidating. Most guys are flying more than 35 hours a month.

One of my friends on the 777 FO was just extended. This month is weird on reserve in MIA 777 very little open time.
I had a LHR fly through into this month. I'm on call yesterday through this Monday. I haven't flown.

You know what else costs the company money? Pilots sitting idle on reserve not flying, so I guess that means they should just work everyone harder. Kidding of course, your reserve system is the gem of the industry. There should be absolutely no guilt trip for someone that doesnt make consolidation. Its not his job to worry about training costs.

That is "Corporate America" at it's finest. Attach a cost to everything.

There are many here at AA,US,DL and UAL that feel we should do like UPS. Longevity pay and longer lock-ins.

What's the diff, they bought and paid for the sim's. Do you really really need to itemize down to the 7th decimal to the right?

AA knows the cost of everything and the Value of nothing.

Most of us have been here so long and are numb to the way AA does it, that we no longer question anything. Sad.

Todays conundrum, the guy just senior to me on reserve for tomorrow need the FO seat to GRU which is open to help his consolidation. He is senior in our group. I will will probably be JM'd for it.

I will report back.

No one in Group 1. I am in group 2 with 13 hours and he is above me in group 2 with 18 hours.
Under normal proffer hierarchy, he can pass or take it for tomorrow.
Under the current messed up anti-order, i'm guessing i'll have to fly it.

I have 4 or 5 to pass to in my group.

But right now they are not following any rules of engagement.

Back in March on reserve, I was in Group 2 with 3 people in Group 1.

I get a call from CS. We have a trip for you which one do you want?

I said you have 3 trips right?

Yes she said.

OK you should call the 3 people in Group 1.

Oh No I can't contact them.

Really? OK, I have 7 pilots to pass to in group 2. I'll pass.

Oh No, I can't contact any of them.

John MacEnroe: "You Cannot be serious!"

I flew.

Repeated 2 other times in March.

I'm in the 3 June Indoc at AA. With all the 767's To Miami that have been coming down, how long should a new hire expect to be on reserve? Months or years?

Too funny. But AA still has the best reserve system in the industry, which may not be saying much, but at least its a TRUE reserve system as opposed to other airlines that run their reserves extremely lean and work their pilots 75-85 hours a month. Yes maybe that's happening in some places at AA like NYC maybe on the 73, but its an anomaly.

Do senior widebody reserve FOs have to go back to the sim for their takeoffs and landings? Sure. And that's great, they worked hard to achieve that QOL, and seniority has its privileges. I just have a hard time sympathizing with "training costs" argument, those are pretty much set costs and already accounted for since all sims and instructors are in house. Pilots should save money to help the company when they can, i.e. fuel burns, apu usage, etc. But scheduling is not one of those areas pilots are expected to be doing on behalf of the company. APA scheduling committee should be working any issues that need fixing.

I don’t think anyone can really give a good estimate right now. I don't think any new hires are holding lines on the 767 in MIA yet. There are a few that are holding lines on the Bus in New York, but that may be an anomaly. Meanwhile there are FOs in other bid statuses that have been on reserve for 10+ years. And at the same time, the Captains that I have flown with say they spent about 2 months on reserve when they got hired. So I guess to be safe I would say expect a couple years, but hope for a couple months.
