The trips so far are nothing to brag about. So they probably can hold nicer trips on the 737.

If they can hold a line on the 737 they can probably hold a line on the 757/767. Why lock yourself out of the 757/767 for two years when you're about to hold a line on it?

Why bid the AB and take the 2 yr lock in when they can bid it in a couple of months when they see trips they want to fly?

When better trips start showing up, and guys realize how junior it is (newhires are as high as #3 of 25 on the airplane!) local 737 guys might start bidding it. 757/767 newhires should be lineholders at about the one year mark(early next year). They'll have to figure out if they want to be junior 757/767 FO's ($ and longer trips) or pretty senior AB FO's.
Once the SLI happens there will be boatloads of AB guys bidding to MIA...

Thanks Slice, just curious as to why it wouldn't be desirable...since it sounds like there is a strong possibility for us guys in the pool

Since it's new equipment most w/b FO's aren't going near it. Senior n/b FO's can hold good lines. Midpack and junior FO's that are thinking about bidding w/b in the next two years aren't bidding it.

So the pool of available candidates gets smaller and smaller.

But at some point, like when you realize newhires junior to you are in the top 10-20%, with every holiday off and summer vacations, it makes sense to stick your toe in the water.

So ultimately it sounds like a great gig for the new hires based on a quick seniority within the base/aircraft

Early bird gets the worm.

Late 1980's we had guys who could be 727 FE's on reserve in DFW or lineholding FO's on the A300 in JFK.

Same thing happened. Plane showed up and no one knew what the trips would be like. So junior guys piled on. And enough of them got on that they they had enough guys below them so that they were off reserve.

And then the bid status stopped expanding. Junior FO's weren't leaving because they were so senior on the A300. Actually heard a midpack seniority FO complaining that he couldn't bid the A300 because so many junior guys were on it and "no one's leaving". Kind of funny because he never bid the airplane until it was too late. That's not the junior guys fault.

Sometimes you have to be bold. Junior guys can risk that. Their upside exceeds the potential downside. Midpack guys have less upside and more downside. That's part of the issue were seeing in MIA right now.

So far there are 26 FO's with MIA AB/I jobs. Newhires are 22 of them and some of them havn't even started training. About 10-20 more expected by March. Which means at least half of the newhires awaiting MIA AB FO/I training will be lineholders by March/April. Nice way to start your career.
all true..but have you looked at the lines?! Talk about UGLY and I've heard very little you can do to fix it ( drop/trade etc). I'd bid reserve down there on the Bus.

20 days on - 10 days off..if you live in the greater Miami area awesome..you will love it..for commuters ehhhhh.

Lots of variations of this pattern. It will get better as the flying builds, but in the meantime have fun.

Turns right now are 5:00. 18 days = 90 hrs
I think one is a 11:30 departure and back by 3:30. Every breakfast and dinner at home.

The GCM 2 day is 10:15 ish. Nine trips = 18 days = 92 hrs.
Leave around 10:00 and back at 17:00 the next day.

Decent enough if you live local and are senior enough to hold those trips.

Junior trip is 1700 dept and return at 0600 on day 3. Two days off and repeat. Commuteable.

Flying is supposed to double by March/April. Increased options of unknown quality. Unknown quality is part of the reason 737 FO's are sitting on the sidelines for awhile.
