Nicely said. You're so right that this period is stressful and anxiety-producing; it's interesting to see how it all manifests in our behavior.
And you're right about few people understanding what this means or how it feels. It reminds me of walking through the CLT terminal one day years ago and overhearing a pilot in uniform saying to the credit card vendors who pester our passengers "See what I'm saying? What don't they understand about Final and Binding?!?" I stopped, glanced at the two of them, shook my head and walk onward, wondering if the credit card vendor guy was going to make a sympathetic donation to AOL after hearing this particular pilot's plight.
Yes, this seniority stuff produced some weird behavior

Ansett pilots probably think of this when you and so many of your mighty West Internet Commanders (WIC) improperly use the term SCAB to describe east pilots. Yeah, there's been no shortage of caustic vitriol from you and others there in the Valley of the Sun, but don't let that get in the way of pointing out anyone else's negative observations.
And of course, ever true to form, you follow your accusation of "little stabs" with your own "little stab" at guys hired in 1999. If the award is Fair and Equitable by the standards that these arbitrators are going by these days, then yeah, third list guys hired on the East should do alright. And why shouldn't they? This might not conform to your sense of reality (quite an enigma in itself, I'm sure) but these guys were hired at a major airline many years ago that needed pilots, so they got through probation and moved up into wide body right seats and junior (190) captain seats and they are contributing "sweat equity." That's a term that you might soon see written by people who are more important that you or I (might be a foreign concept.)
And when you say a "smear," what are saying? I have over 1000 pilots behind me on the East list. Is that something I should be ashamed of? Should I be upset about third list pilots not being significantly more junior to me? I just really don't understand your mindset, WD. All I want is Fair and Equitable based on 2013's data, and if the so-called "third listers" are close to my seniority then I just don't see how that's wrong. You seem to have issues with that...but you turn a blind eye to SO MANY other things! One has to wonder, WYE?

SLI is an ugly draining process few understand the importance of and you'll likely only find solace with others who got what you got in the list. An even crappier part is the SLI tends to compartmentalize and isolate commiseration over its effects. You'll be unwittingly admitted to the "hey I did alright" club or the "wow I got screwed but what can I do?" group or the "where's my pitchfork and torch?" mob.
Then slowly for most it just melts away overtime. Some will file lawsuits and kiss money goodbye. They'll be rightfully angry because these things always screw some group here and there. There's always a lamb or two at every sacrifice but in time it fades away and reality sets in and life goes on.

Com'on WD. Some of the west guys do it to themselves. They'll quite literally tell anyone that they can corner about their plight and they're angry at everybody. I have heard that some west warriors even go as far as to give some of our new hires a hard time on the jump seat because they aren't based in Phoenix. Even refusing to shake hands.

Holy cow if ever there was a classic case of psychological projection, WD you are the epitome. If you are unfamiliar, here's a definition: Psychological projection is a theory in psychology in which humans defend themselves against their own unconscious impulses or qualities (both positive and negative) by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others.

If anything at all you should be ashamed of how you treat your fellow pilots. I know for a fact this is all falling on deaf ears and it's an epic waste of my time. I will say this to you, pray that SLI comes out like some many of you are touting because absent that many will come on here and nail you to the proverbial wall. I won't even waste my time.

It's a shame that there will be East pilots that will rub a victory in the West pilots' faces. It's also a shame that you admit your peers will do exactly the same if they attain a victory. Obviously there are no saints.
There is only one issue that I can for certain determine about the outcome of the SLI award after participating in this forum. The East and West will continue this blood bath of bitterness. There are those of you that have let this integration become your very being and your very soul.
With all the good that is finally occurring to all of our futures it will all senselessly be dragged down the drain by this persistent misery that some just can't let go of.
(Directed at all, not just you WD). It's only a freaking list. Will it really be everyone's last thought on their death bed? If anyone answers yes you've got more to worry about than the outcome of the award.
