View Full Version : McCaskill-Bond / NWA ALPA vote?

The McCaskill-Bond Law - Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO). The law requires labor protections for airline employees (e.g.) "provisions shall be made for the integration of seniority lists in a fair and equitable manner" and disputes over seniority shall be submitted to binding federal arbitration. Since the amendment was just signed into law late Dec. 2007, airline pilot merger case studies are non-existent. However, the recent arbitration award given to the US Airways-America West ground handlers was ‘Date of Hire’. The only McCaskill-Bond case study to date has gone straight DOH via arbitration.

Talk on the line is that NWA pilots are so displeased with ALPA national that it may be time to send Capt. Prater a message. In order to apply McCaskill-Bond , a vote to decertify ALPA would be required prior to completion of the merger. I find it hard to believe that we may actually go down this road. Unfortunately, if a ‘SLI’ can’t be worked out, I guess anything is possible?

Let’s work out the SLI issue soon, together DAL/NWA will be a true powerhouse...

I agree we need to work this out and we indeed will be a powerhouse. However, I'm not yet ready to decertify ALPA.

I see its your first post. Welcome to the lake, come on in, the water's great!

Maybe I'm reading too much between the lines, but this sounds curiously like a grasp at a straw of just the remote possibility via McCaskill-Bond of somehow getting a DOH award on the SLI.....based on the one precedent of the ground handlers at usair and amwest? NWA guys are considering decertifying their own union on the basis of this "precedent"? YGTBSM!!!-Now that would be a desperate attempt to grab a windfall. By a show of hands, how many think it would be fair to have only 210 Delta pilots in the top 1700 of the combined list.? (DOH) Not trying to flame here but I think if this idea is being taken seriously, it needs to be addressed.

As a pilot for NWA, I can tell you that ain't gonna happen. The overwhelming majority just wants a fair deal....fair for both NWA and DAL. Strict DOH is not fair and we know it. Please don't get fired up by someone's wishful thinking hoping for DOH. There are no talks about decertifying ALPA at NWA. In fact, this is the first time I have heard about this rumor!

No problem, just remember each side has vocal hotheads and they are typically the minority. Everyone i talk to just wants to get this done and make it as fair as possible to both sides. We have some very talented individuals working on our behalf throughout this process and i am confident we are all going to get through this and move forward together!
