Today's results for NWA really cap off a great week. DAL earns $137 million and NWA earns $170 million for the 2nd quarter. In this market - this is flat out incredible. I like this excerpt from the bizwires:

"...Northwest said it would have earned $170 million for the most recent quarter if not for the accounting charge. It also benefited from a $250 million fuel hedging gain. The carrier said it is on track to close its buy-out by Delta Air Lines Inc. during the fourth quarter. Those two airlines are the only big carriers to report second-quarter operating profits ($137 million for Delta) although analysts expect Southwest Airlines Corp. to report a profit on Thursday..."

Instead of the normal merger of one strong airline trying to drag a weaker one across the finish line, we have the two strongest ones merging.

I like the sound of that too Carl. I just hope this doesn't raise the eyebrows of those in government who will ultimately have the say in our merger!

"The two strongest airlines are merging"

When I read that I wasn't even thinking DAL/NWA. I was thinking Southwest and Ryanair hehe.

C'mon guys - lets not get ahead of ourselves - we still have a long way to go, and we shouldn't be too impressed with ourselves - after all:

You just hope they get it done before the mandatory change of administration in November.

For the sake of the new DAL, I hope so too. But if not...

Heyas,

Hopefully we'll hear this prior to negotiations in 2012:

Yup. Those guys always had great lines in their movies, but there are plenty of others:

"Dude, something strange is afoot at the Circle K"

"OK, good safety tip" (don't cross the streams).

"Dogs and Cats, living together, MASS HYSTERIA!"

and my personal favorite:

"Its ONLY a flesh wound"

"Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where? "

We're both correct. Mine was Nigel Tuffnel in Spinal Tap while going in circles trying to find the stage to their Cleveland show. For anyone not having seen Spinal Tap, its the best rockumentary ever done. It certainly meets or exceeds the product of Roger Moore.

"We're very lucky in the band in that we have two visionaries - David and Nigel. They're like poets, like Shelley and Byron. They're two distinct types of visionaries; it's like fire and ice, basically. I feel my role in the band is to be somewhere in the middle of that, kind of like lukewarm water"
