I was wondering if anyone on the boards currently works for Ram Air and could tell me how the how the QOL at the company is ? how much flying they do and if they might be hiring early next year? I am approaching 135 mins and I am currently flight Instructing and I liked what I saw on the website but I wanted to see what a current pilot there might say on the company.

I can't comment on current QOL there, but it was a decent gig in 2002 (Which is old info; you just didn't have any other responses). Good maintenance for a check hauler, crappy pay, great schedules. In the years since I've left when comparing notes with guys at other places it sounds like we had it pretty good. I know they've undergone quite a bit of shrinkage with Check 21; are they actually hiring right now? Single-pilot 135 is a great way to learn and gain decision making skills as long as you remember to stick by your guns.

They are down to a few aircraft. Sold most of what they had. Ramp at RDU looks quite empty.

Well that's too bad. I'm an RAF alumni myself. Good times. Seemed like they were doing well in recent years. You just never know I guess.

I was at RAF the same time frame and agree with AE's description.
Unfortunately, they have really shrunk. The Barons and 402s are gone and their route network is a fraction of what it used to be. I still keep in touch periodically. They've had to let some guys go due to lack of flying so they're not hiring right now.
AE, I see you're "in transition." You upgrading or going to the Bus? Or are you leaving JB?

Definitely not going to be any more hiring at Ram Air now. RIP Ram Air Freight. Good times there though.

Agree, RIP RAM. Most fun I've had getting paid to fly, and one less opportunity for newbies to get some great experience and learn about themselves before being chained into the right seat of an RJ :(

I was at RAF back in the 90's and it was some most fun I have had. Started in the Cheetah for almost nothing then the BIG jump to the Cherokee then to the Baron. LOL sometimes look back and miss the simplicity of the flying. Load everything you can into the plane takeoff.
