So there's a job posting online for a local 135 operator.
What would you say/do when just "dropping off a resume" to the CP?
Obviously there's etiquette and professional behavioral considerations, but I'm getting at the :what to say?

Is it "tacky" to drop off a resume for a current job hoping to see the CP?
Just drop it with receptionist? What's the best way to go?

Yes, by all means drop off a resume in person. I'd do the following:

Dress as if you were going to an interview.

Be polite to everybody.

Ask if you can see the CP. If the answer is no, then leave it with the receptionist. Don't whine or beg to see him.

Be fully ready to be interviewed on the spot.

If you don't receive something, (call, email letter) call back in a week or two and inquire if he received the resume.

Keep in mind, I would not do this for an airline.

I got a job off an ad in Trade-A-Plane this way.

Drop off letters of Rec too, or only if meeting with CP?

Just the resume. Bring them, in case you are asked to interview.

I agree with Johnny Jet. Throw on a suit and go down there with your resume in hand. I got a job this way. Of course this was back before 22 yr old HR girls took over the hiring world, and you could actually walk in the front door of a business without having to get buzzed in like the paranoid world we live in now.

Had to drop it to the front desk staff. CP was out. :(

Follow up with a call, in a week?

I would NOT wait an entire week.
In this case - trying to make first cotnact - I say strike while the iron is hot (and before someone else drops off a resume when the CP is in and he sees that person's resume before the front desk staff gets around to giving it to him :(
I say call the next day - two days MAX - just to make sure that you received it ;).

I work as a CP for a medium size management company and I am surprised how few drop a resume off in person. A majority of the people that did eventually got an interview.
