Does anyone know if I am to register with the TSA for my commercial single engine? I was required to get clearance prior to starting my PPL and IR, but according to AOPAs guide on the TSA process, I need not get a clearance for CPL. I do need one for multi engine.

Additionally, do I need to get clearances for obtaining CFI or CFII, MEI etc? Each application is worth $130 bucks, and I truly hope I only need one more for my multi.
Thanks!

Yes, the AOPA site is correct. You can think of it as if you are learning a new pilot skill - basic flying, multi-engine flying, instrument flying or type ratings for planes that weight more than 12,500 pounds, you need the backgroiund check. The COMM is not considered a "new" skill - unless you have a PVT SE and get a COMM ME. Not sure about the CFI, check the AOPA site.
