There was a Pprune thread on LAN on the process. You must have the right to live and work in Chile and be fluent in Spanish, IIRC.

You also must be willing to work for what they pay

I will say SA flying is miserable work--all night flying for the most part. Leave at 11pm, arrive at 9am stuff.

I am low time and it's better than a US regional...

LAN takes care of the work permit apparently...I e-mailed HR with my basic data (nationality, hours, education etc...) and got a very nice e-mail back asking for a resume and a form to fill out.

A friend of mine who is a US citizen got hired by them with about 300-400 TT and speaks fluent english/spanish. Word is he was making upwards of 100K but dont quote me on that one. I also heared that if you just had some glass time your in as long as your able to pass the phsycal/psycological exams.

That is the salary of a captain on the 76 with 5 to 6 year seniority. I researched them briefly since I am a Latino and would love to go back and fly in Latin America, but their T&C's are pathetic. Also their selection process is very strict and most people don't meet the LAN profile on the psychological interview

I see, selection "a la Air France"... Hate these psycho tests, don't think because you ace those you are a good pilot! See what happens with the Rio Paris, proper training (stall recovery for example) may have saved hundreds of lives!

I will second that! Do you have an email address or contact person/phone number at Lan Chile? Do they speak English if you just call them?
Thanks

just because they're a South American airline doesn't mean they're a Banana republic. Their hiring process compares to that of a U.S airline...
Im currently a 767 FO with LAN. What I can tell you about LAN is that you go through a very detailed examination (spchyc being the game braker). They are paying around $50k/yr (USD) with a possibility of around 70k with the yearly bonus (this of course in chilean pesos). The training is the same as in any major US airline, and some times a bit more advance (they have AQP, and some US airlines don't).
They do hire you no matter where you are from, but speaking fluent spanish (and most importantly reading it well) is a company requirement. They are big in the personality profile they are looking for, so no matter how many hours you have, if you don't have their profile, they won't hire you.
Right now they have stopped all foreigners hiring, because they exceeded the percentage of non-chileans allowed by their union. They have union talks this year, so that may change, but the line of people in the waiting list is quite long.
Recently they hired a big chunk of Spaniards and Mexicans (mainly guys that got furlough after Mexicana went down). But spaniards, Venezuelans and Uruguayans seem to be their main focus. These people have lots of good experience, are more than willing to relocate to Chile, are spanish natives and speak good aviation english.
