The discussion of UAVs taking over our profession seems to rear its head every few years.
This might allay any concerns over them being used in large commercial applications for the foreseeable future.

That's for sure. The airlines would skimp on anti virus stuff and get the cheapest, crappiest stuff just perfect for hacking.

Any computer connected to another or the internet is vulnerable and can be hacked. Stop drinking the Mac coolaid. They have flaws just like every other computer system.
This is a serious situation. First, who leaked secret information to the press? Any why? Second, why didn't anyone notify the proper officials? Third, how did the virus get installed on secret systems? Fourth, why are UAVs still not encrypted?
Lastly, regarding the UAVs replacing airline pilots debate, this is yet another reason why that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Just a guess, but I would imagine that the information came out of the unit itself....probably an individual had went to his supervisor, but was rebuffed and was sufficiently concerned that they felt this was the only way.

Not only would you need high levels of physical security, the physical and electromagnetic components of the network itself would have to encrypted and hack-proof. Not only against teenage computer dweebs, but against the resources of a nation-state...like say Iran :eek:

In the military, there is a system in place for things such as this (the boss won't listen). Anyone going to the press with classified information, should be dealt with appropriately.
