This is not my case yet....hopefully! But after starting to run again I started to get some burning on the upper leg/bottom of the belly section. I will have my Doc take a look at it but I was wondering if it's other than a muscle spam and it turns out to be a hernia needing surgery what are the steps to take? Reason I ask is because I have a 1st class medical although I only use 3rd class privileges right now. My 3rd class privileges would expire in 2014 and I would like to avoid paying for another medical right now if I didn't need to. Could I just report the surgery(IF surgery is even needed)next medical exam in 2014? OR...should I have my AME send the FAA a letter from my doctor after the surgery once everything is done of what happened and that I'm fine WITHOUT another FAA physical? OR......I'm I grounded after the surgery until SEEN with an Actual FAA physical?
Again I like to be 2 steps of the game in terms of what to expect and that is why I ask this. I'm not even sure this may be more than a muscle spam.:) Keeping my fingers crossed. hehehehe

I had quite a severe hernia about 8 years ago. I ended up actually going to the ER because of the pain. Had the surgery and simply reported it at my next medical. The FAA seemed happy enough and I never had anyone from OKC question it.
BTW. I hope you like your AME because you'll get the cough test from now on!!

have the surgery . . . no fly till surgery and necessary medicines r done. If their are complications, no fly! Report @ next exam.

You also should like your AME because if he's worth the money you pay for your medical, he'll help you through the process! I know of a handful of AMEs who have found problems on pilots, sent them to a specialist for consultation and surgery, and when the pilots asked their AME what they could do to help the paperwork/approval process, the AME basically responded with "You're the pilot; you figure it out." Not the type of AME I want by my side when my career is on the line. So if you don't have a great AME already, look around and make sure you're working with an AME who will do anything in his power to help you along.
