I remember reading in a thread a while back where someone suggested a financial book. Said it was a MUST read for pilots. Doing some searching I've had no luck.
I believe it was something along the lines of a book by the madmoney guy...
Anybody know?

"Rich dad, poor dad" was a decent read.

The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey.
It takes some discipline, but it works. http://www.daveramsey.com/store/prod326.html

Good book for basic theory, but google John t reed and read his website and take on digging into the facts and history of the author.

Who can afford a book as a pilot?
You can, but this is not a pop culture essay, more of an overview:

Total Money Makeover (Dave Ramsey) is a must-read.
I'd also recommend Automatic Millionaire by David Bach.
I buy most of the books I read at thrift stores so that I can afford them on a regional FO salary.

If you are interested in books on investing, I've thought One Up on Wall Street and Beat the Street were pretty good, which are both by Peter Lynch. Also, Motley Fool's Million Dollar Portfolio and most of Jim Cramer's books are pretty good as well. All of these you can get at the public library.

+1 on Dave Ramsey. Best book I've read on personal finance. No get rich quick scheme's... just sound money management and financial planning. A mind shift in the use of debt (hint get rid of it and never use it again).
