While he admires US Airways chief Doug Parker's aggressive and public push to merge his airline with American in the near term, Walsh said American's desire to consider merger options after exiting from bankruptcy is "absolutely right."
He said American Chief Executive Tom Horton "will have a stronger hand to play with after he has exited (chapter 11)."
"If you look at it historically, most of the consolidation has happened after exiting from chapter 11," he told reporters.
Also, it has been reported that DP has a 20 million payday if US is merged or taken over by anyone else.
The big question is who will be running the airline when the dust settles. Dave Bates said if AA emerges as a stand alone then "the sun sets on their deal with US"

BA is loyal to AMR management at this point. If AMR can hold on to the reigns of power and merge after BK exit, they'll split a 300-600 million dollar pot among them. They need to exit stand-alone for that to happen.

Up to 20 Million, but that is if he gets the boot, but for the looks of it he is looking to run the Airline.

Sorry boys but Parker has to run it. There are clauses in the east contracts that are triggered if AA buys usair that raise costs by billions. As for Willie's comments you guys got to read between the lines. Didn't Willie mention usairways by name? Meanwhile horton is running around proposing everything from virgin to cape air, ridiculous and an obvious power play to the detriment of AA and it's employees.

Horton is still basically in control. $20 million is nothing compared to the amount of equity Horton and his underlings will suck out of AA if they can emerge a stand alone. We're talking hundreds of millions of dollars. That isn't the amount that will really hurt the employees though. It's the loss of the ability to merge under bankruptcy. That loss will cost a combined US/AA billions, which long term will hurt the employees of both US and AA. I think the biggest difference between Horton and Parker is that Parker actually wants to run a successfull airline and leave behind a legacy. I could be wrong, but that is my impression. Horton??? He's in it for the $$$. Hey, considering the state of our society, how many people wouldn't $%#@ over 120,000 people to swipe $100 million.
