I love D18s! What a beautiful plane! THAT'S what an airplane is supposed to look like - radials and taildragger!!

Did some one say radials:

The engine is clean because it has leaked all its oil on the gear! Seven piece windshield, I can still see water running down the panel and radio stack.

Makes sense. Yeah I though the pilot was winding me up when he told me it drops between a couple mls to a few hundred mls of oil after every flight. Those drop sheets on the wheels are heavy with oil.

cheers

He's got Hartzell props so it's an 8 gallon tank for each engine. A quart an hour a side is nothing. The push rod tubes look clean so he's got a tight engine (or he spent some time wiping.)

Nice aircraft. In the late 80's my first real job after instructing was flying freight in Beech18's at JVL, Wisconsin. We had 3 E's and 3 G's. 3 had Hartzell 3 bladers with pressure carbs and 3 had hamilton standard 2 blade props standard carbs. This was a real multiengine airplane and the sound of the 985's was amazing. You literally flew them till you were in the chocks !! Every aspiring pilot these days should be required to fly 18's for 6 months single pilot freight to prove himself worthy !

+1

I was looking through Trade-a-Plane yesterday, Blackhawk still has adds for Twin Beech stuff. They're probably like Hankins at Hawkins, sitting on hangers full of stuff from the 60's and 70's.

The ones with a training wheel are H18s. Takes all the fun out of a 30 knot crosswind.
