Just read an article that F-35 Training will be at Luke AFB! I tried to research but couldn't figure out the details and what happened to Eglin being the training location. Anyone know the details?

Whatever the "official" reason is secondary to the political clout of az vs fl.

My understanding is Eglin will be the joint location for USAF/USN/USMC and foreign students. Luke will be a strictly USAF F-35A RTU/FTU/Whatever you guys call it. Kinda-sorta like Tucson's roll, but with USMC and USN too (VPS that is).

It was announced 3 squadrons of 72 airplanes. Possibility of another 3 squadrons at Luke, depending on what happens to the planned 2 squadrons of F-16s moving to Holloman. (on hold for now) FMS training is planned at Luke as well. The EIS was approved for 144 F-35s at Luke.

The EIS (Environmental Impact Study) only approved 57 F-35s at Eglin
