Default overseas requirements

What is the difference if any between a ATPL and the FAA
ATP I have with regards to flying for a leasing company overseas?

And is a Command rating just a Type rating?

Not really any difference at all. The FAA calls them certifcates and the rest of the world calls them licences. ie, ATP certificate = ATPLicense.

Overseas, it the norm for FO's to be typed. So a command type rating would be what you get when you shift to the left seat.

JAA (european) ratings are also much harder to acquire than US ratings...there is serious academic training and testing involved. You can get a US ATP if you have decent stick and rudder skills in a CE-172.

Many other nations model their training on the JAA (Australia, NZ, Japan, etc).
