You made some poor decisions. You are an adult. I truly hope that it sticks. It is not good to get away with stuff like this. It makes you think you can be irresponsible with no consequences. What part of having pot on you did you think would be ok? Please find another line of work.
I hate this attitude, Milky where do you get off? You must be totally innocent of any wrong doing your entire life, I envy you. The kid knows he was wrong, he had a lapse in judgement, he feels bad about it and has learned his lesson should he have to pay the rest of his life? ever lost your queen in a chess game? Please find another line of work.

...more like being in the wrong place at the wrong time type of deal...
Is there a right place and time for an aspiring aviator? Two words of wisdom: Keep your nose squeaky clean from now till the end of new hire probation with your dream carrier(only 10-15 years if you're lucky)and lose the Iceman avatar.
Kid. I think most pilots have tried it at some point, I know guys that have done WORSE stuff if you get my point. MSW is right though that stuff will get u kicked out of the INDUSTRY faster than u can imagine. Again you should be ok just pick a better course and keep your wings level.
Wish you the best of luck.
You must hang around a different group of pilots than I do then if you think MOST pilots have done 'it'.
I really feel for this guy - wrong place/time, it can destroy your life... However, when I was in the wrong place/time (and I was often) it was I that drove myself there.. I was lucky and was never caught!!!
Getting a job these days is tough!! I have finally got one and start training on in Oct... Going through the PRIA check was not fun and while I was an open book and put down everything correctly it still came back with information that I was asked to qualify...
If I had a drug issue looming I would get a GREAT KICK@#$ lawyer, pay him lots of $$$$$ and have him quash this issue.....
However, there really is no place for drugs/booze in the cockpit and this young man might want to question how he gets his highs - for me, I get my highs flying, I guess I am strange like that.
Aviation........ You can be a disgusting falling down wife beating drunk but once you smoke a bit of pot your looked down upon like a piece of trash.
Good luck man, might want to talk to a aviation attorney.
If he was just a college kid with no aviation aspirations when this happened, I think he'd get more slack. However, he's already licensed by the FAA and seems to have had a goal of flying professionally in mind. I don't wish him harm in career pursuits but don't feel bad for him either.
Hey, he can always get work flying low level routes between the carribean, Mexico, and the U.S. A pot bust may even enhance the resume there with some street cred!

Maybe not done IT, but done somethin stupid when viewed in a professional context. When you go into aviation, it has a way of dragging your past in as well, and rightfully so. Aviation is (in some ways, and not the good ones) still stuck in the past.

I don't know if that is quite true. I'm thinking that if a person has domestic violence/DUI/DWI convictions on their record then they are looked at pretty hard too.

And boy are they ever!!!
If a person has had an issue with alcohol or drugs, whether it be rehab or DUI/DWI, prior to any type of medical cert or licensed by the FAA, the FAA is going to "smoke you over", (no pun intended), to make sure that that person is psychiatrically and psychologically capable of flying airplanes. As long as the person is willing to abide by the adage, "He whose bread I eat, his song I sing", while going through the process and thereafter, he or she shouldn't have a problem with being certified. However, the issue isn't dead. When this person goes to apply for a job, they will have to re-live this over and over again just as it was stated in a previous post.
