PRIA Records

If it's the employer records, look on the FA website there's a lot of info about PRIA including rules about incorrect info. PRIA does not protect employers who submit bad info.
If it's cost you a good job, you could sue the past employer...I think that would put the onus on them to PROVE their derogatory data. Normally the plaintiff bears the burden of proof but in this case it would be libel, where the defendant would have to show that any derogatory info in print was reasonably legit. You could then settle the lawsuit if they agree to fix your records to your satisfaction. That last is important IMO...employers don't like to hire people who make a habit of suing employers, but if all you got out of the deal was your record fixed (and maybe lawyer costs) I think anyone would be sympathetic. But you'll probably have to ask for money up front to get their attention.

You may find that a letter on your attorney's letterhead will suffice to encourage the former employer to correct their records.
I once had an a former employer report that they wouldn't hire me again. When I learned of it, I called the former employer to ask why they made that statement. The flight department had closed, and they wouldn't be hiring any pilots again, as the aircraft was sold. I explained that their answer would cost me a job, so they contacted my prospective employer and corrected the error.
If the former employer won't work with you or correct the problem, your best recourse is to make this information known to your prospective employer.
If former training records contain inaccurate or incorrect information, the FAA may be interested; those records are required documentation. If the records are falsified to the point of stating that you failed a checkride, for example, then paperwork will need to reflect that, and if that's falsified, the former employer has a big problem. In such a case, the FAA may be your friend (much as it pains me to say that).

Can an individual request their own copy of pria records concerning a past employer prior to applying for a job? A few years back I worked for an extremely shady operation I was forced to resign prior to finishing out my contract. This place has been sued for falsifying records, bribing the FAA etc. it wouldn't surprise me if they falsified my records.
